Going the distance to swim
Michael's swimming outings have started getting less and less frequent as the weather changes and we get into the fall months. The problem is that the water is colder. Also, it gets dark earlier, and often rains during the day (which further cools the temperature of the water).
I went swimming by myself this morning ... swam 1000 meters. I had left Michael at home with Grandma, and we had agreed that if the water was a child-suitable temperature, I would call and she would bring him over. It was definitely too cold, so I got in my 1000 meter workout and went back home. The clubhouse manager said that there was a 60% chance of rain today, so I kinda figured that Michael would not get to swim today.
However, it did not rain today. In fact, the sun was out and it was blazing hot. Around 6 PM, we figured it would be a GREAT opportunity to take him swimming, and probably one of the last times for this year that we could go swimming in the outdoor pool.
We helped him get changed and walked over to the clubhouse. He starts getting excited when we change him into his swim diapers / swimming trunks and walk him over to the clubhouse since he knows he's going swimming!
When we got to the pool, Jim (gentleman who works at the clubhouse) stopped us and told us that he had to close the pool because of cleaning. We turned around and Michael seemed disappointed because he wasn't getting to swim.
I didn't want Michael to be disappointed, so I ran home, got the car, and drove all of us down to the Clubhouse III. It's about 3 miles from our place (instead of the convenient across-the-street Clubhouse IV).
He had a great time and went absolutely crazy splashing.
I was just glad he got to swim today.
