Michael's First Vacation

Where to start ... we took Michael on his first road trip to St. Augustine, Savannah, and Atlanta.

Overall, he was really good, a great traveler, and a real trooper. He was well-behaved, as long as he was not hungry or tired, he was adventurous. Michael likes to see new things, see the world.

He's such a curious child, that he spent most of his time in "scanning mode", taking in and analyzing his surroundings. This seemed to wear him out quickly, so he'd switch to "sleeping mode" and doze off.

He's curious about people, and is constantly scanning.

When we were in Atlanta on the MARTA, we took him on his first subway ride from Buckhead to CNN / Centennial Park. He was scanning people on the subway until he made eye contact with a gentleman in a business suit. He then proceeded to just stare at the man, to the point where I was worried it was a bit rude (of course, nobody minds a little baby staring at them). The man in the business suit smiled and waved at him, and Michael kept staring, until his eyes started to droop and he fell asleep.

He slept fairly well in the hotel rooms.

There were a few points where traveling with Michael was rough:
  • Walking down St. George Street in St. Augustine. It was hot, and he was tired of being carried around. He started making this weird noise that worried me, but everyone else said was okay and was just him expressing displeasure.
  • Driving home today. It was a long drive, and after being in the car for about 4 hours, Michael had enough and was fussy. He eventually fell asleep.
There were some points where Michael really seemed to enjoy his trip:

  • Michael liked the fountain in Ellis Square in Savannah. We went at night, after dinner (around 9 PM). It lit up different colors. He loves water, and colorful lights made it all the much better.
  • He liked the polar bear at World of Coca Cola. It made him laugh.
