Independence Day
4th of July ... we went to our friends John and Debbie's Fireworks and Barbecue party. It was a lot of fun. Initially, we had a difficult time getting Michael to even set foot in their house. In the words of their little daughter, "He's a little bit shy."
When we finally brought Michael into their house, he cried a lot. There were a lot of people, and a lot of other kids, and it all overwhelmed him. Michael really doesn't have that much interaction with other kids, since me, Mom, Grandma, and Grandpa take care of him. He's not in daycare, and he's too young for school, so he doesn't have a lot of social interaction with other toddlers.
He did seem to calm down after a while and even though he didn't really interactively play with other kids, he would walk up and look at them, curiously, and start to gain a bit of comfort and social confidence.
He really liked the barbecue, he ate quite a bit. He had turkey, ribs, pork, hot dogs ... a little bit of everything. Michael also seemed to enjoy the fireworks, things that flash, sparkle, and make big bangs!
We left Grandma and Grandpa at home, let them take a rest. This was the longest that my wife and I have ever taken Michael out by ourselves. It was pretty cool, we felt like real parents! (we're a bit spoiled to have so much babysitting help built into our household).
